The Archive of Light
The Origin
‡Khani was born at the intersection of high-concept production and artisanal craft. After decades at the helm of advertising, editorial film, and large-scale experiential marketing, the founder transitioned from the high-velocity world of agency production and creative representation and a meaningful role as a documentary producer to the quiet precision of the hand.
While her career has been defined by producing complex documentaries and corporate narratives, ‡Khani represents the return of the Fine Artist. It is the translation of a lifetime spent documenting the world through a lens into a tactile, sensory archive. ‡Khani operates on the belief that history shouldn’t just be viewed; it should be felt.
The Material Philosophy
The work begins with the hive. ‡Khani sources raw, traceable beeswax from local South African beekeepers who guard the integrity of the land. In its Genesis state, the wax is unmasked—carrying only the honest scent of honey, pollen, and sun. The house rejects synthetic fragrances and industrial additives, allowing the material to remember its origin.
The Maker’s Hand
In the Johannesburg studio, every piece is a result of Slowness. ‡Khani rejects automation in favor of the artisan. As the wax is hand-filtered, hand-sculpted and hand-poured, there is a literal transfer of frequency—an energy exchange between the maker and the form. This is a meticulous "Production" where the oversight of the producer meets the intentionality of the artist.
The Belief
Beeswax remembers heat. Mica remembers light. Together they hold the belief that even what is fragmented can still glow. ‡Khani is more than a candle house; it is a tactile archive. By using the tools of the future to protect the memories of the past, the house ensures that every flicker of light carries a lineage of resilience for the Winter launch and beyond.
